In 2024, approx. 2.7B units of electrical capacitors were consumed in China; leveling off at 2023 figures. In general, consumption, however, showed a slight decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 3%. Capacitor consumption peaked at 3.4B units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2024, consumption remained at a lower figure.
The revenue of the capacitor market in China reduced modestly to $134.5B in 2024, which is down by -2.2% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). Over the period under review, consumption, however, saw a perceptible decline. Over the period under review, the market attained the peak level at $206.7B in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2024, consumption remained at a lower figure.

Over the period under review, production saw a slight curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the production volume increased by 3.7%. Over the period under review, production reached the peak volume at 3.4B units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2024, production remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, capacitor production shrank slightly to $136.1B in 2024 estimated in export price. In general, production recorded a pronounced decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the production volume increased by 17%. Over the period under review, production reached the peak level at $221.4B in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2024, production remained at a lower figure.
In 2024, overseas purchases of electrical capacitors were finally on the rise to reach 84M units for the first time since 2021, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 35% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 104M units. From 2017 to 2024, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, capacitor imports contracted to $8.9B in 2024. Overall, imports, however, showed a perceptible contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 47%. Imports peaked at $13.4B in 2021; however, from 2022 to 2024, imports failed to regain momentum.
Indonesia (9.3M units), Japan (9M units) and Taiwan (Chinese) (3.1M units) were the main suppliers of capacitor imports to China, with a combined 33% share of total imports. The Czech Republic, Thailand, Malaysia, India, South Korea, Hong Kong SAR, Germany and the Philippines lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 22%.
From 2013 to 2023, the biggest increases were recorded for India (with a CAGR of +10.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Japan ($3.3B) constituted the largest supplier of electrical capacitors to China, comprising 37% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Philippines ($967M), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by South Korea, with an 8.8% share.
From 2013 to 2023, the average annual growth rate of value from Japan totaled -4.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Philippines (+5.0% per year) and South Korea (-5.7% per year).
Variable capacitors (28M units), electrical capacitors; fixed, aluminium electrolytic (25M units) and electrical capacitors; fixed, ceramic dielectric, multilayer (13M units) were the main products of capacitor imports to China, with a combined 78% share of total imports.
From 2013 to 2024, the biggest increases were recorded for variable capacitors (with a CAGR of +52.5%), while purchases for the other products experienced mixed trend patterns.
In value terms, electrical capacitors; fixed, ceramic dielectric, multilayer ($6.4B) constituted the largest type of electrical capacitors supplied to China, comprising 72% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by electrical capacitors; fixed, aluminium electrolytic ($1.2B), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by electrical capacitors; fixed, tantalum, with a 7.8% share.
From 2013 to 2024, the average annual rate of growth in terms of the value of electrical capacitors; fixed, ceramic dielectric, multilayer imports stood at -1.3%. With regard to the other supplied products, the following average annual rates of growth were recorded: electrical capacitors; fixed, aluminium electrolytic (-3.4% per year) and electrical capacitors; fixed, tantalum (-2.8% per year).
The average capacitor import price stood at $106 per unit in 2024, reducing by -23.7% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a mild curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the average import price increased by 44% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $160 per unit in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2024, import prices failed to regain momentum.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 81%. The exports peaked in 2024 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

India (34M units), Hong Kong SAR (33M units) and South Korea (15M units) were the main destinations of capacitor exports from China, with a combined 62% share of total exports. Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, Turkey, Taiwan (Chinese), the United States, Germany and Iran lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 27%.
From 2013 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Vietnam (with a CAGR of +21.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Hong Kong SAR ($2B) remains the key foreign market for electrical capacitors exports from China, comprising 35% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by South Korea ($645M), with an 11% share of total exports. It was followed by Vietnam, with a 9.4% share.
From 2013 to 2023, the average annual growth rate of value to Hong Kong SAR stood at -9.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: South Korea (+7.7% per year) and Vietnam (+31.2% per year).

Electrical capacitors; fixed, tantalum, electrical capacitors; fixed, designed for use in 50/60 hz circuits and having a reactive power handling capacity of not less than 0.5 kVAr (power capacitors), electrical capacitors; fixed, ceramic dielectric, single layer, electrical capacitors; fixed, n.e.s. in heading no. 8532 and variable capacitors lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 19%.
